About Us

Located in the Avenues area of Hull, Rainbow Nursery and Rainbow Preschool offers a friendly, caring and safe learning environment for children aged 6 weeks to 5 year olds. Rainbow Nursery is situated in a large Victorian house in this leafy conservation area and Rainbow Preschool is based at St Ninians Church Hall on Chanterlands Avenue. Both provide a homely and caring atmosphere where children feel happy and relaxed.

We have a team that comprises of long serving, knowledgeable and experienced staff who have a passion to go the extra mile to make your child’s time a happy and fulfilling experience. Our practitioners specialise in specific areas of interest and like to involve the children in a variety of activities some of which include cookery, music, outside activities and excursions.

We follow the governments Early Years Foundation Stage framework with its 7 areas of learning, and we are able to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and those who speak English as an additional language.

Our nursery and preschool pride ourselves on the highly positive relationships we develop with parents. We recognise that successful liaison with parents contributes to improvements in children’s achievement, well-being and development and we place great value in ensuring that parents develop a sense of belonging in the Nursery and Preschool, and have a say in the care and well-being of their children.

Operating a Key person system, each practitioner has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible for. Your child’s key person will work alongside you to ensure that what the nursery provides is right for your child’s particular needs and interests.

When your child first starts with us, their key person will help your child to settle in, and throughout your child’s time at the nursery and preschool the key person will help them to benefit from the activities we offer. Key persons also undertake detailed on-going observation and assessment to provide a clear insight intoyour child’s progress and achievements, and parents are encouraged to take their child’s progress file home to read and add any comments at their leisure.

We know how important it is to keep parents up to date with developments at our nursery and preschool, and so regular information is communicated through our termly newsletter, website, Facebook pages as well as notice board announcements and daily key person contact.

Rainbow Nursery and Rainbow Preschool aim to provide a safe, stimulating environment where all children and adults should feel a valued part of the nursery and are treated fairly. Our policies help us to achieve this. Policies are displayed in the entrance of the nursery, or you can obtain a copy by requesting from the Nursery Manager or by downloading them from this website.

WHAT PARENTS SAY

“Great little nursery, my daughter loves going, and often hates leaving! Nursery staff encourage her development and she has made some great attachments to workers.”

Lisa Revell

“Absolutely fantastic preschool. My daughter loves going every day and the staff have been amazing with her medical needs. We were so worried before Ella started attending due to her multiple allergies and other health issues but the staff have gone above and beyond to include her in all activities and making the environment as safe as possible for her.”

Debbie Hermann

“The staff are all absolutely brilliant! This is such a warm and friendly place for my kids to go. When I looked round this nursery my gut instinct said it was the right place for my kids and it has never disappointed us.”

What Makes Us Special?

Rainbow Nursery is distinctive in that it is owned by a local Charity.

Our parent charity, Hull Community & Voluntary Services (Hull CVS), works to help local causes to start up and flourish. The support offered includes advice on how to become a charity themselves; how they can work with the likes of Children in Need and Comic Relief to obtain funding for local projects; and how they can access and utilise volunteers to help deliver good causes.

Each year, our parent charity provides a range of services to hundreds of volunteers, charities and community organisations who dedicate their lives to making a difference to local communities across Hull.

As Rainbow Nursery is run as a non-profitable organisation, it means our sole priority is on your child’s happiness and development. By enrolling your child with our Nursery, not only are you helping to give your child the best possible start in life and education, but you are also contributing to vital local causes and charities.

Benefits we gain for being part of a Charity

  • It makes us part of a bigger family.

  • It means we are focused on core values.

  • We and you support and give back to the local community.

  • It gives us access to necessary administrative support, meaning our Nursery Practitioners can remain entirely focused on your child’s care.

  • It opens us up to support, donations and opportunities that are not available to private nurseries.

Rainbow Nursery helping the local community

As a result of the donations that Rainbow Nursery makes to our parent charity, Hull CVS has been able to work even closer with local charitable causes, providing a range of vital support. Below are just some of the examples of how we have helped:

“After failing to get a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, I sought advice from Hull CVS who assisted me by rewriting my application far better than I could hope to do and succeeding in getting the funding we applied for. It is good to know there are people like yourselves that can assist voluntary organisations and I cannot praise Hull CVS enough.”

Walton Street Leisure

“Thanks so much for your time last week; it was brilliant. We learned much more in that half an hour than I would have by researching and looking at Charity Commission website.”

Hull Scrapstore

“We are a small charitable organisation providing education through theatre. The organisation has used Hull CVS’s services for many years. The service has always been very responsive to the organisation’s needs and is of excellent value.”

Spin Off Productions

“The team was so kind, considerate and inspired us to move forward with confidence. The team use their considerable knowledge and understanding of organisations to advise us which ones might be able to help us raise funds.”

The local community giving back to Rainbow Nursery

As a result of a charitable status, we are very lucky to have been donated our very own designated soft play area by The Deep. This provides us with a fantastic alternative to our outdoor environment to support and develop our children’s physical and social skills in a safe environment.
We would like to extend our thanks to The Deep for providing us with this very unique addition to our facilities.
